Extended city tour of
Athens
You say
that you will have only one day to spend in Athens? Then this tour is
perfect for you and has become very popular, especially with people from the
cruise ships. Lasting about 8 hours, you will start off by seeing the
Parthenon at the Acropolis built in the 5th century B.C. Other
highlights that you will see and visit in the city are St. George Lycabettus –
the highest point in the city with it’s panoramic view, the Panathinaiko Stadium
– where the first modern day Olympics were held in 1896, the first university
and academy of Athens, the changing of the guards at the President’s Palace and
the Temple of Zeus. A trip to
Athens is not complete without a visit to the oldest neighborhood in the city
“Plaka” with its maze of narrow, shop-filled streets. In the Plaka area you
will see and visit the Tower of Winds, Roman Agora and Ceramiko. The National
Archaeological Museum is also included on this tour – one of the world’s finest
museums. Enjoy a great lunch at a taverna NOT visited by the tourists.
There you will be able to try a wide variety of Greek dishes at very reasonable
prices. Many clients have told me that this was the best meal of their
cruise!
Cruise Ship Combo
Many cruise ships make a stop in Athens for only a day.
If you have 9 - 10 hours in port, why not try the "Cruise Ship Combo"? A
combination of the City Tour and Cape Sounion is a perfect way not to waste any
valuable time while you are docked in Pireaus. See all the sights in Athens in
the morning, make a stop for lunch and then in the afternoon see the Temple of
Poseidon at Cape Sounion. You will be back to your ship in time for departure,
leaving you with fond memories of a day you will remember always. As with all of
my tours, it’s up to you where you would like to
stop along the way to have a closer look at something or to take some pictures.
Your once in a lifetime Greek adventure is just an e-mail away……………….

Sparta/Mistras
We
begin by travelling
along the Saronic Gulf’s coastal road to the Corinth Canal. The Canal is a
structure of great importance, as before it was built, ships sailing between the
Aegean and Adriatic Seas had to circumnavigate the Peloponnese, adding about 185
nautical miles to their journey. After
seeing the canal, we make a quick stop in Ancient Corinth where St. Paul spoke
to the Corinthians. When we reach Sparta you will see the huge statue of
Leonidas made popular by the movie "300". See the remains of the palace and
the theater there. Next, we move on to Mistras, the capital of the Byzantine
Empire, with its churches and monasteries overlooking the Spartan plains.
Return to Athens in the evening.
Ancient
Olympia
from Katakolon
Will your cruise
ship be making a stop in Katakolon?

Andreas, with his A/C Mercedes taxi can be there waiting for you at the port to
take you for about 5 hours to see the sights in Olympia. First you will see the
Alpheios Dam. Another stop is made at a new amphitheater. This theater, made
of stone, was built to remind you of the ancient times and holds 4000 people.
The panoramic view is fantastic and on a clear day it is possible to see your
ship at the port. Visit Ancient Olympia
which gained its fame as a
sanctuary of Zeus and Hera. The site also contains a wealth of other small
shrines, gymnasiums and sculptors' workshops. According to tradition, here is
where the Olympic games were founded in 776 B.C.. It is from here that the
Olympic torch is still lit and carried to whatever corner of the world the
modern Olympiads are held in. In the museum see exhibits of unique sculptural
masterpieces, such as Praxiteles' Hermes, Paeoneus' Victory, Apollo and many
other art treasures.
